I’m a big fan of READING EVERYTHING IN YOUR SIDES EVEN IF IT’S CROSSED OUT AND DOESN’T PERTAIN TO YOUR CHARACTER.
Why? Because it’s your JOB as the actor to bring the story alive which means ya gotta know the story! So if you skip the sections that are crossed out, how will you know if they pertain to your character’s story or not? So often I coach actors for a great new show who are so focused on their LINES that they forget to tell the story.
Here’s the jist: EVERYONE AUDITIONING FOR THE SAME ROLE HAS THE SAME LINES! So, how do you stand out, you wonder?
By telling the story with YOUR thoughts, YOUR opinions and YOUR experiences. Even though everyone auditioning for the same role has the same lines, y’all have very different experiences in your life that makes you, YOU. So USE those experiences. Take EVERYTHING personal in your work as that’s what makes YOU stand apart.
Walking into the audition room with that kind of preparation will just naturally make you stand apart and hopefully book you the job!
